Built for districts investing in instructional coaching, Coaches Academy develops the skills coaches need to move from support to learning leadership.
Over six facilitated sessions, coaches build expertise in evidence-based practice, collaborative inquiry, and effective feedback — grounded in Learning Forward's Standards for Professional Learning. It's the depth of professional learning that only the organization that literally wrote the standards can provide.
200 Alexandria City Public School coaches establish a culture of learning
Using strategies from Taking the Lead: New Roles for Teachers and School-Based Coaches and Coaching Matters, Learning Forward’s Coaches Academy provides comprehensive learning and ongoing support for coaches across a system.
The Coaches Academy includes:
Coaches develop skills through six onsite sessions with a dedicated facilitator who ensures new practices take hold.
School and system leaders participate in their own sessions on providing support for effective implementation of a coaching program, to ensure conditions are in place for coaches to be effective. Coaches can't be effective without leadership support, and we don't leave that to chance.
Every participant receives copies of Taking the Lead (2nd ed.), Coaching Matters (2nd ed.) and the Standards for Professional Learning, the foundational texts that anchor the program's approach.

What Coaches Learn to Do
Effective coaching builds influence, trust, and the ability to lead adult learning. Coaches Academy builds the full range of skills coaches need to be taken seriously as learning leaders by the teachers and principals they work alongside:
Build relationships that create the psychological safety teachers need to take instructional risks
Provide effective feedback that is specific, evidence-based, and focused on growth rather than evaluation
Present and facilitate professional learning for individuals and teams with skill and confidence
Coach individuals and teams through structured cycles that produce lasting changes in practice
Lead professional learning that is purposeful, standards-aligned, and worth teachers' time
Select learning designs that match the complexity of what teachers are being asked to do differently
