Assessing Impact
Measuring the quality, effectiveness, and impact of professional learning requires thoughtful planning and implementation of an evaluation process and is more crucial now than ever given the multiple complexities of education today. Educators’ professional learning is the primary vehicle for developing their capacity to meet the daily expectations of teaching and leading in adaptive times. We help systems implement a process for assessing the effectiveness and results of professional learning to create a plan for evaluating their professional learning programs.
Learning Forward works with district and building leaders to establish a clear strategy to develop short- and long-term professional learning goals that are measurable and tied to educator performance and results for students.
Through our evaluation of professional learning practices and policies, we collect data on the status of a district’s current professional learning and provide concrete next steps for ensuring your professional learning investments strengthen teaching effectiveness and improve student achievement.
Our process includes:
- A review of professional learning policies and their alignment to state/district goals, strategic priorities, and the Standards for Professional Learning;
- A review of professional learning schedules, offerings, and program evaluation data;
- Districtwide administration of the Standards Assessment Inventory, a 50-item instrument that measures alignment of professional learning to the Standards for Professional Learning;
- Onsite interviews and focus groups with teachers, coaches, and other district stakeholders.
